The University Of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia’s leading universities, with a domestic and international reputation for research and teaching excellence. Established in 1909, it is the largest and oldest university in Queensland and continues to attract the vast majority of the State’s highest academic achievers.
UQ has won more Australian Awards for University Teaching than any other university and is ranked among the nation’s top two or three research universities on most performance indicators.
During 2006, the University’s seven faculties and 32 schools offered more than 400 programs and 4500 courses to more than 37,000 students including more than 6,500 international students. Students were based at UQ’s three main Southeast Queensland campuses at ST Lucia, Lpswich and Gatton. Each campus offers a distinctive community lifestyle, first-class facilities and a beautiful, safe and modern environment for work, study and recreation.
The University is a founding member of the Group of Eight, a national alliance of research-strong “standstone” universities committed to ensuring that Australia has higher education institutions that are genuinely world class. Internationally, UQ is a member of Universities 21, a select alliance or research-intensive universities dedicated to world-best practice.
UQ has created more world-class research institutes than any other Australian university and maintains strong links with government, the community and industry.
The University’s graduates have a strong record of attaining employment and income levels well above the national average, with UQ qualifications highly regarded by employers. UQ graduates have many strong networks in industries in Australia and internationally.
