学生在选择专业的时候，有的学生对于social work 专业存在很多疑问。所谓social work究竟是学习什么内容呢？将来在澳洲从事何种工作？就业率如何？
就这个问题，根据澳洲就业市场和工作场所关系部的信息，目前社会工作领域的职位空缺程度很高，尤其是有多元文化和语言背景的社工专业人士。如果修了这个专业的话，不单单在澳洲，即便在其他国家也有很多的就业机会。2012年社会工作硕士毕业生的平均起薪是65，000澳币。社会工作在SOL1列表中，评分满60分即可申请澳洲PR。那么，社会工作的就业范围主要包括有社区发展，法律和家庭服务，惩教服务，残疾人士和长者服务，社会规划和管理，研究和私营产业等多种领域。
其中，南澳大学是教授社工课程的领军院校，提供从本科，硕士和博士的课程。南澳大学开设有社工工作室，模仿人类服务专业人士的工作场所，使得学生可以实践他们的专业技能。工作室配备有录像设备，照相机和可以从相邻教室观看的单面镜子。学生完成了学业的同时也做好了工作的准备。社会工作的硕士课程包含有980小时的社区社会工作实践，同时还有国际的实习机会。毕业即有资格成为AASW协会的会员。
