Some people think that governments should ban dangerous sports, but others think people should have freedom to do any sports or activities. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Over the years, extreme sports have increased in popularity around the world. Though some people are in favour of outlawing these dangerous sports, I think that everyone should have the freedom to participate in them.

On one hand, it is true that extreme sports such as car racing, bungee jumping, and sky diving are inherently risky. People who are inexperienced might be unprepared and act too recklessly, which would increase the likelihood of a life-threatening injury. Even a skilled and highly experienced sports person could make a minor mistake and end up getting severely injured or losing their lives. For example, the famous snowboarder Caleb Moore attempted a backflip on his snowmobile during a competition, but he ended up in a violent crash, eventually passing away from his injuries. Accidents like these hurt not only the competitors, but also their friends, families, and dedicated fans.

Even though extreme sports are risky, I still think that people should still have the freedom to participate in them as they wish. Extreme sports competitors greatly enjoy the challenge, thrill, and adrenaline rush inherent in these sports activities, and many are well-aware of and accept the risks involved. What’s more, extreme sports often bring glorious fame and prestige to the competitors and even recognition to their country. Since extreme sports are usually more challenging than other sports, competitors often feel a sense of pride in their accomplishments. Rather than completely banning extreme sports, governments should ensure that the sports facilities meet the required legal standards of safety and that all competitors take the necessary precautions.

For these reasons, I believe that—despite the risks—people should have the freedom to participate in extreme sports.
